Reflections on COMDDAP 2009: A Journey of Discovery
When it comes to this year's COMDDAP (2009), my first realization was that I had no prior knowledge of the event. Perhaps it was due to my recent neglect of reading newspapers or my tendency to focus on alluring billboard advertisements instead. It was only last month when I decided to search for COMDDAP on Google that I stumbled upon an article about it.
As fate would have it, I did come across an advertisement in a restaurant newspaper during my visit after the convention. However, by then, I was already en route to SMX and had forgotten to bring my calling cards—an essential item for any convention. Without a calling card, one would miss out on freebies and the chance to participate in raffles. Nevertheless, I pushed forward, too lazy to make a detour to the office and retrieve them.
The presence of students at COMDDAP was overwhelming. It seems that attending COMDDAP is a requirement for some schools. I vividly recall my own college days when this event was a must-attend. Of course, the technology showcased back then was vastly different from what we have today. During my first COMDDAP experience, they were showcasing a 12MHz processor and a black-inked inkjet printer— a far cry from the multi-colored inkjets and 3GHz++ processors of today.
One noticeable change was the scarcity of new technologies and promotional girls. I happened to encounter only two promotional girls who willingly posed for my camera phone. However, the mascots at the event were becoming more impressive.
COMDDAP 2009 focused on Filipino ingenuity, featuring original Pinoy innovations. One notable highlight was the assembly of a large touch screen monitor, which I believe was locally made. It showcased the capabilities and creativity of Filipino entrepreneurs.
Competing companies such as Sun and Smartbro had prominent booths located opposite each other. They were busy showcasing the speed and reliability of their wireless DSL connections. I couldn't help but wonder why I never spotted a booth from Globe.
Another prominent sight at COMDDAP was the wide array of LCD monitors. Some Taiwan-made 23" monitors were attractively priced at only P12,000, offering great value for consumers.
All in all, my trip to COMDDAP was worthwhile because I discovered a supplier for VOIP phones who presented a solution for saving on long-distance calls. Apart from that, the experience felt like a visit to a vast Cyberzone, immersed in the world of technology and innovation.

Students, students, and more students. I think attending COMDDAP is a requirement for some schools. I still remember when I was still in college, that this is an event that we never missed. Although the technology before was very different from today. On the first COMDDAP that I attended, they were highlighting a 12Mhz processor and a black inked inkjet. A far cry from the 3Ghz++ processors and the multi-colored inkjets nowadays.

There is also scarcity in new technologies and promo girls. I only chanced upon two of them who willingly posed for my camera phone. But atleast the mascots are getting better.
COMDDAP 2009 focused on Filipino Ingenuity with original Pinoy innovations. In the picture below is a very big touch screen monitor being assembled. I think this one is Filipino made.
Competing companies such as Sun and Smartbro have big booths and was located opposite one another. Both of them boasting about the speed of their wireless DSL connections. I wonder why I never saw a Globe booth...
There is also a wide array of LCD monitors everywhere. Some Taiwan made 23" monitors are priced for only P12,000.
Well, my trip was worthwhile because I found a supplier for VOIP phones that will present a solution on how we can use their products to save on long distance calls. Other than that, it was just like going to a very big Cyberzone.
