The Power of Tools: Crafting High-Quality Tables with Precision and Efficiency

Customers often express astonishment when they learn that we handcraft our tables. It may be because our tables look remarkably well-made, or perhaps it's the disbelief that we possess the necessary carpentry skills. However, we have a trade secret to share: It all comes down to the tools we use. No matter how skilled you are, without the right tools, completing a job on time, with precision, and to your satisfaction becomes an uphill battle.

CUTTING THE WOOD:

In the early 90s, we utilized wall-mounted computer tables, which prevented the tables from swaying when accidentally bumped. However, this setup presented challenges when it came to setup and disassembly, especially if we needed to relocate.

When we transitioned to free-standing tables, we initially relied on carpenters to cut the wood for us. Although we occasionally attempted the cuts ourselves, we struggled to achieve the desired design.

That's when we invested in a game-changer - the Jigsaw. This versatile tool provided us with the ease and flexibility to cut round corners effortlessly, while also simplifying the process of dividing an 8 x 4 feet, 3/4-inch plyboard into smaller sections.

TIP: When choosing a jigsaw, take the time to test different brands and models until you find the one that best suits your needs. We recommend purchasing tools from Ace or Handyman (Ace tends to be more cost-effective).

Over the years, we've tried several jigsaw brands, and only Bosch has withstood the test of time and countless plyboard cuts. Our Black & Decker and Makita jigsaws, unfortunately, ended up in the repair center.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER AND TAKING IT APART:

When designing our free-standing tables, we aimed to minimize the use of nails for easy disassembly (particularly beneficial for relocation purposes).

Using an ordinary screwdriver posed challenges, such as blisters from applying excessive pressure while driving screws. Additionally, imagine assembling tables for 20 computers using only a screwdriver - you'd likely experience cramps in your arm muscles.

To address these issues, we turned to the power and convenience of an electric screwdriver. Bosch introduced the IXO, which initially impressed us with its capabilities, making table assembly a breeze. However, after a few months of use, the IXO started experiencing defects. Fortunately, the store promptly replaced the unit. Unfortunately, the replacement also lost some power after a couple of months. Realizing the need for a more powerful cordless drill, we decided to explore other options.

The Bosch cordless drill available at the time seemed overkill for our needs, both in terms of price and power. We shifted our attention to the DeWalt cordless drill, which proved to be a more affordable alternative compared to Bosch.

The DeWalt drill surpassed our expectations, offering enhanced power and extended battery life. With the added convenience of a backup battery pack, we could continue working continuously by charging one battery while using the other.

Having used this

drill for quite some time now, our only issue has been with one battery not charging as quickly as before. However, we attribute this to ordinary wear and tear.

Interestingly, the Bosch model we initially considered was later replaced with a model more similar to DeWalt. While we are eager to try it, it currently seems impractical to purchase, as our DeWalt drill continues to perform exceptionally well.

In conclusion, the right tools make all the difference in crafting high-quality tables efficiently. From the precision cuts enabled by the Jigsaw to the ease of assembly provided by electric screwdrivers and cordless drills, our choice of tools has transformed our woodworking process. By investing in reliable brands like Bosch and DeWalt, we have experienced enhanced productivity, minimized downtime, and improved overall craftsmanship.

Remember, the next time you embark on a woodworking project, select your tools wisely. With the right tools in hand, you can achieve remarkable results, meet deadlines, and create beautiful pieces that stand the test of time.
